Two Ģ����ý students from the Mike Huether Public Service Academy have earned prestigious national recognition, demonstrating how SDSU’s newest academic program is already making waves beyond South Dakota.

Bryson Love didn’t need an invitation to get involved in the activities of the mechanical engineering department at Ģ����ý. Before he even began classes, Love asked about getting involved in NASA projects. By September he was on a team, surrounded by other freshmen and sophomores. By June he was in Cocoa Beach, Florida, with his team as a finalist in a NASA contest, and their entry received the award for building the best prototype. This school year he and some of the other 2024-25 freshman are now leaders on teams competing in a variety of NASA contests.

Linet Paul came to Ģ����ý with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, five years of experience as a hydraulic engineer in her native Kenya and a desire to grow. She was looking for a U.S. graduate program where she could earn her master’s degree and gain valuable lab experience that she could turn into know-how for the construction of water engineering systems in her home country. Paul earned her master’s degree in December 2024 and continued her academic track as a doctoral student under Professor Francis Ting in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering with a focus on fluid mechanics and hydraulic engineering. Ting, a 31-year veteran at SDSU, is recognized as an expert in breaking waves, bridge hydraulics and scour.

Ģ����ý is now home to the state’s first chapter of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. “It is the society for aerospace engineering,” said Jeffrey Doom, an associate professor in mechanical engineering and a professional member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics for 15 years. He is also the coordinator of the aerospace engineering minor and specialization in the Lohr College of Engineering and the chapter’s adviser. Doom and Turner Marr, the student branch chair, were notified Jan. 21 by the national organization that the application for a provisional charter was approved.

In 2014, Jacob Englin walked across the graduation stage at Ģ����ý with a bachelor's degree in agricultural education and a dream to help shape the next generation of agricultural leaders. Over a decade later, he’s back at SDSU not as a student, but as a full-time assistant professor helping to guide the very program that once shaped him.

Ģ����ý has named Daniel Saud as its new director of graduate and international admissions following a national search.

An addition to Ģ����ý’s Swine Education and Ģ����ý Facility has completed the final round of legislative approval. House Bill 1118, approving the design and construction for an expansion to the university’s existing swine wean-to-finish facility was signed into law Tuesday afternoon by Gov. Larry Rhoden.

Students from Ģ����ý are preparing to attend the annual Commodity Classic, the nation’s largest farmer-led and farmer-focused agricultural trade show, thanks to the continued generosity of alumni and industry donors.

Presidential historian and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jon Meacham headlines this year’s Daschle Dialogues on April 7 on the Ģ����ý campus. This year’s event is being held in First Bank & Trust Arena.

The annual Ģ����ý Celebration of Faculty Excellence recognized more than two dozen faculty members, researchers and scholars Tuesday. The event honors faculty members in the university's colleges for outstanding research, teaching and service.
